Thank you for reading. This is all kind of crazy. I post this stuff and people keep reading it and saying nice things. Even things like "Seth, you've changed my life."

But I put the good stuff in private emails to those who subscribe here. I write every day. If you're not cool with that then don't bother subscribing.

Blackford Chronicles Part I: The Delusion Begins

Sometimes life teaches us in explicit terms how delusional we can be (especially since we all have to battle the natural tendency to serve our own self interests in everything we do).

At the beginning of last year my wife and I decided to upgrade our vehiculars.

This was no small leap for our little family.

We needed something large enough for long road trips and to cram three kids, their blankets, and their posse of stuffed animals (long story, literally).

Seeing how we both “loathed” the idea of minivans and the stereotype that goes a long with it, a full-size SUV seemed like the only other option. Wife grew up on a farm and I’m just “too tall” for minivans or “too cool” (at least that’s what I told myself).

But poking around online at prices… I threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Why? Because the little voice in my head said I must have the best… but the “best” carried a $58k price tag (didn’t look at Cadillac because I couldn’t stomach the kids doing their kid thing all over a Cadillac).

Reality check. That’s almost TWICE the cost of a brand new minivan.

Yeah… so this is where it gets weird and where the life lessons start raining down like manna (you learn from being stupid as you will see).

I wanted the high end stuff but didn’t want the high end price, so I found a 2013 Ford Expedition Limited 4WD at a “scratch and dent” kinda place… a place that takes salvaged vehicles and fixes them up to appear brand new.

$37,999 was the price tag.

Well dude, that’s the Limited edition with ALL the whistles, including DVD players (two of them)… all for a $20k savings. Word.

Even better, this one had only 442 miles on it. What?!? Means everything under the hood is brand new.

Better yet, the damage it sustained was just HAIL damage from the plains of Oklahoma where it’s apparently not just windy (didn’t know that sized hail was an actual thing, I just thought it was a figure of speech, just my luck). Insurance companies hate it.

I showed up at the yard ready for a test drive.

And… I bought it just about as quick.

How could this go wrong? It was too perfect. So I thought…

Over the next few posts, I’ll lay down a stream of life lessons pulled from this one simple choice that have everything to do with YOU and taking back control and confidence in your own outcomes as an entrepreneur.

Just click here to read Part 2.

From where you sit, how do you see this going down?

Go. Fight. Win.

610SETH

P.S. I’ve only told a fraction of the story and yet you should be able to pick out at least a dozen huge glaring red flags in the story yet so far… truth is, I didn’t see them at the time.

It’s like that quote from the Oracle in the Matrix. “You can’t see past the choices you don’t understand.”

That’s why it’s critical to get someone to take a look at what’s going on for you, right now and set you straight, in a matter of minutes.

I’m doing a marketing test around that very thing. Free 15-minute mindset realignment calls for entrepreneurs. Go here now: https://instantbreakthrough.com/free

The “What Do You Do” Complex and Society’s Identity Snitch

Who are you? What do you do?

What do you do for a living?
Is that who you are?

Maybe there’s two bones left on the table that need to be picked clean today. I’m on it.

In my business networking I get asked two questions way more than all the others.

  1. How tall are you? (This is almost always the first question, usually with necked craned and mouth wide open).
  2. Really wow… What to do you?

For someone who is really clear about who they are and that who they are is not what they do, that second question is a head scratcher.

How do you answer it?

“Um, I do web shenanigans… you know, like marketing and stuff. I make the phone ring and the cash register sing!” That doesn’t communicate what I really do.

What I really mean is… “I use my talents and gifts to guide sincere people who want to achieve their own personal greatness to permanently change their lives by finding out who they really are at a level they never thought possibly and supplying them with the inspiration, tools and direction they need in order to become that person.”

In our society, we’re really slick as a weasel at associating what we do with who we are. It’s a chronic personal blasphemy that few people give a second thought to… and that needs to change.
Try this. Ask yourself point blank, out loud.
